Specular Microscopy

Specular Microscopy is a non-invasive imaging technique used to examine the corneal endothelium — the innermost layer of cells in the cornea responsible for maintaining corneal clarity by regulating fluid balance. This advanced diagnostic test provides high-resolution images of endothelial cells, helping assess their health and density.

Uses

Evaluating corneal endothelial cell count and morphology
Preoperative assessment before cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, or refractive surgery
Diagnosing and monitoring corneal diseases such as Fuchs’ endothelial dystrophy
